Overcast sky, a field full of marquees and children line up to enter at the Neil Howells registration tent – it must be that time of year again!

Full of beans the children run and chat with friends before the start of the race, parents look nervous and mildly proud.

I meander over to the race secretary to announce my presence for this year’s race and ask if there are any limitations on this year’s events, there are not and they pat me on the back and we both agree its good to be here, although I have noticed there does only seem to be me here as a photographer, one time, there were a few that would make their way to various vantage points and I’d meet them on my way round and have a quick chat, but not anymore, just me – billy no mates :D

This year though I have a new addition to my photographic storytelling, a drone. So, in combination with a selection of still, we can add to the mix with some video work.

Despite the rain, (can you fly a drone in the rain, well yes but keep in mind CAA recommendations, common sense and an awareness of your drone and others) the drone helped capture the atmosphere of the race set in the most idyllic and tranquil setting in Mid Wales.

The adults race kicked of to a good start and then came the rain – on time and as usual for this time of year, although last year was in a heat wave, so I guess this years dampness may have been ideal for the runners, certainly not for this photographer as a lot of my shots would not focus so I had to revert to manual focus and with moving targets and very low light, it became a bit of a challenge – but that is what this art should be all about, no fun if it’s just point and shoot :D
