Remembrance Photoshoot
Oh my, this must be the whole school, how impressive, splendidly ordered and well behaved, the children gather at the remembrance gardens and with them, 34 small wooden remembrance crosses held delicately in their hands as they gather to pay their respects to those that had fallen in two world wars.
As Captain Paul Hodgson thanks the school for their continued support every year, I look around for one of the teachers to get an idea of which children I should avoid capturing for this event – once identified, I take in the scene and look for those photographic moments that will best portray the feeling and moment of the mornings gathering.
Moving onto the weekend’s remembrance activities, Saturday sees a pleasant change in the weather. Arriving a little earlier to set up a PA and microphone so speeches could be heard, it is nice to be out without getting blown away or soaking wet.
The Sunday service starts with a tumbling sky as October’s leaves spin around November’s parade from the Town Hall to St Nicholas Church then from there onto the remembrance gardens for the 2 minutes silence. It is so dark this morning, shooting at ISO 1600 and lens wide open for most of the shoot, I can at least pick out emotions and faces deep in thought.
Sunday, late afternoon sees the service resume at the Town Hill where again Captain Paul Hodgson directs the proceeding. The scene from here again is very dark, the wind cold and the sky offering no comfort for the dark days ahead. I take my position a distance away to capture the moment as the bugle sounds and flags lower to the whisper of a soft prayer carried away by the wind.....
